DUMBO, BROOKLYN

Dumbo, Brooklyn the smallest, but busiest “town” in New York. One main street connecting to a bunch of tiny side streets makes this place both quaint and modern, making everybody who enters fall in love. I know I did walking through on this chilly and windy day, but don’t worry we braced the cold and got the pictures down!

Celeb Spotlight Gigi Hadid

So I’m starting this new series of posts which puts a spotlight on some of my fashion inspirations. There’s a plethora of celebs who have amazing style so I’d like to highlight some of their pieces and what’s so good about them.

So my first is Gigi Hadid! We all know she has some of the coolest style on the street today and everybody and their mother’s wants to be like her. Plus, her style is very easy to recreate which puts us ordinary folk at an advantage. While making my daily rounds on Tumblr or Instagram, I always see new posts about her and her street style so I’m always finding myself purchasing similar shoes or jeans. (oops!)

What I love about Gigi’s style is that she mixes high fashion items with inexpensive, fast fashion pieces. The mix and match effect creates a cool dynamic that really adds to the charm of her style, which I have come to appreciate. She is always sporting basic shirts and a nice pair of jeans with a statement bag, jacket or shoes, as you can see with her snakeskin boots up top or the studded leather jacket. (To die for by the way!) Also, the blue leather jacket is so smart because it speaks for the whole outfit. The outfit itself is basic, but the jacket gives it a pop of color and a bit of edginess that ties it all together. It can be worn on a day out with friends or even a low key date, so the versatility of it is awesome, just like all of her outfits.

Ending The Year Right

So 2015 is already over and I can’t believe it. This by far has been one of the coolest years in fashion and I can’t wait to see what 2016 has in store. Now as you can see from the pictures, turtlenecks have been my absolute favorite pieces from this year and they better be just as popular in the new year. A turtleneck is timeless and can be styled in so many different ways, from a chunky knit to under a leather jacket or coat. It is the one piece that can be worn to be extremely comfortable or extremely chic, which is why it’s at the top of my list. So in the upcoming year, make sure you all go out and buy one for your wardrobe and rock it which ever way you wish.

Jack’s Wife Freda

Visiting Jack’s Wife Freda for the second time, I was still impressed and overwhelmed in the best ways. The Soho based restaurant on Lafayette Street is probably one of the coziest and homey places that still manages to make me feel like I’m at a family dinner with fifty family members. The small space and crowded tables make it that much more appealing and home-like. The rectangular room holds about 50 people who are all enjoying their various selection of breakfast, brunch and lunch. (My favorite is the Mediterranean breakfast) The overall ambience and aesthetic resonates the comfortable, city feel so many people love. There isn’t a day this place isn’t crowded, and all for good reasons. (Even on a random Wednesday)

Winter Coat

We’re well into December and I still can’t believe it. This is the best time to bring out the coats we all love so much, so that’s just what I did. This season, coats are so popular. They always have been but somehow this season they have multiplied. Coats are one of the most chic items a person can have in their wardrobe. They are casual but classy which really is conveyed through a person’s outfit. Even better, a coat can be thrown over anything and it will automatically look chic; take the newfound sweats trend for example. ( Sweatpants, a coat, and sneakers: brilliant.) In my opinion, a structured winter coat can spice up any outfit and tie any loose pieces together creating a cozy but stylish look for the colder months.

Room Decor

I’m a crazy person when it comes to room decor. It probably my favorite thing next to pointed toe shoes and Dairy Milk chocolate. I have this weird thing where I move any piece of furniture I can probably every month. Once i’m tired of looking at it, I quickly feng shui like a crazy person. My favorite vibe probably has to be all white. I’m a sucker for white, wood and black. I love the simplicity it holds and it looks pretty darn chic too.

Some of my favorite pieces have to be my little Buddha from Homegoods and my spherical contraption. (also from homegoods) I feel they add a homier, elegant feel amidst all the white. Enough of that let;s not forget the infamous Ikea pillow. Everyone has it but it’s honestly the perfect pillow. It goes with EVERYTHING and it’s comfy as heck.

All About: YOGA

akostar

Ok this post is gonna be all about yoga. I’ve finally met the love of my life and it’s only a train ride away. Getting into a class, sitting down and literally forgetting about all my worries of the week is the only thing that keeps me sane. I look forward to classes simply because I can step away from my crazy life and RELAX. My favorite thing to do is go to an actual studio because I like being directed in something I don’t know much about. Me doing yoga at home will end up with me ditching the mat and heading straight to the nearest computer (because I have the attention span of a goldfish). Anyway, going to a studio with a professional guiding me works best for me and the results are awesome! I don’t only feel relaxed when it’s over but I feel like I actually worked out which is awesome because it takes me a while to get used to running. Overall, yoga for me is the best because I exercise while still getting that workout in!

Everyday Pampering

Ok, so you’re usually used to seeing posts about clothes, but lately I’ve been a tad bit obsessed with makeup so I thought eh, why not? So here it is; a makeup post from yours truly. Now it’s nothing too special just a bit of what I put on my face and some of my favorite products, you know the usual.

So Benefit has become my new best friend. Their products are lifesavers and work magic. The contouring products have shaped my face like crazy and the paleness of my face has been concealed after 17 years.

So getting into skin and hair. Tarte’s amazonian clay foundation is amazing and the coverage is beyond. I’ve heard people rave about this for years and I’ve been using it now for about a year and I couldn’t be happier. Next up, St. Tropez. What would I do without you? The mousse gives me this natural glow that sadly takes tanning oil and hours in the sun for me to achieve (which frankly I don’t have time for) so this product actually saved my life. Moving on to hair, Argan oil and dry shampoo; probably the two basics when it comes to haircare. The Argan oil leaves my hair so smooth and silky it’s like I’ve stolen someone else’s and the dry shampoo, ah! it works wonders. That’s all I can say.

Alright lastly, just some extras I could throw in. The Mac Twig color is my new obsession and the lip balm I use is an amazing base. You see that healing balm next to it? Yeah. Greatest. Thing. Ever. I had no idea what it was when my mom introduced it to me but it’s literally a thick balm that smooths out dry skin and cuts. It may not smell like freshly cut flowers but it does the job so well. Lastly, the all too famous real techniques brush. This has honestly become my favorite thing because I no longer have to rely on my hands to blend anything EVER AGAIN. If I kept going I would have wrinkles at age 25 from how much i pulled my skin applying foundation. This brush is so soft, blends perfectly and looks really cute next to your other makeup brushes (just saying).
